July 2010

A Letter to you our Valued Guests,  from  the Sullivan Family,

For all of our past, present and future guests.  First let me thank you for dining with us, sincerely;  July 8th marks our eighth year in business, and it's all because of you.  We know times are hard and we are all feeling the crunch and we truly appreciate your loyalty and continued patronage.

Now;  Let me apologize to those of you who may have stopped by in the past and found us closed, for whatever reason may have been posted. I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience.   I am the sole Chef/Owner; my wife the server/ hostess and occasionally we have help when we can.  We seat 38 people and everything is prepared to order.  It takes a little longer ; but you always get a well prepared, quality meal with service that is family friendly.

We sincerely appreciate that you have chosen to dine with us whether it by referral, or accident or you thought we were an antique store and it smelled too good to leave!   Ours is a unique cafe, we laugh with our guests, we have watched many of our guests children grow through the years as they have watched ours grow from elementary school to high school; and  from the crib (Which is still in the middle of the store) to playing chess with customers.  We have mourned those guests who have passed through the years and support the loved ones who remain to remember the good times they shared at our tables with their lost loved ones.

We are a family operation; and when you dine with us you are a part of that family.   Sometimes we fight with each other; and we may fight with you.  Our guests eavesdrop on each other and introduce themselves into other conversations; and we like it that way.  It feels good and it's friendly.  So our hours are kinda limited around our family and childrens schedule.  Not many have gotten rich that way and we realize that; but more importantly we have our time together to enjoy our children and each other; to help with homework; get involved with school and other activities such as soccer, scouts, biking or watching the sun set on the Gulf with my wife and kids.

I've worked in restaurants since 13 years old and I learned that if I  don't set limits to that culinary beast; it will consume every hour of every day.  In New York I was Executive Chef over 3 restaurants and worked 15 hours a day 6 days a week.  I made plenty of money but I missed too much of Christian, my 16 year old, as a baby.  It wasn't worth it.  We want your business, we want to cater for your parties; we want you to bring friends, loved ones, first dates and new business associates and build memories in that little space that we have created on the bike trail in downtown Tarpon Springs.  We invite you to join us as guest, friends and family.

We have recently changed our hours to serve dinner 5 nights a week instead of two. We advertise that we are open until 8:30; we also advertise that if we haven't taken a reservation or had a guest by 7:30; we go home!  Our kids are older and they enjoy working here now. Their interests are broader and more costly now, so they take turns working shifts and save their tips and wages for things they couldn't usually get. They learn soo much from our customers as they talk to people from every walk of life. Sunday is our family day of rest and recreation and Monday is for the wife and I.  So if you come to our place...and we are closed,  I apoligize in advance and I'll treat you to a bread pudding w/ Whiskey sauce when i see you again.  Call if you know you're coming and you won't be disappointed.

Thank You for giving us over 8 great years together...with you.  We wish you a Great life full of health and happiness.

Chef Brad Sullivan and Family

Now for the more impersonal info that i have to share with you!  Thank you so much for your patronage during these hard times!  We know you have hundreds of places you can choose to eat and we really appreciate your return business!

The lunch and dinner menus,  hours of operation and driving directions are available on our website now with  pictures, video and lots, lots more to follow!

Come and visit us in Historic downtown Tarpon as we enter our 8th  year of Truly Great Food in  Florida's most unique and eclectic dining room!    I will prepare a feast fit for a king for you and my wife will welcome you to our family!  We offer the best of Cajun, Greek, Italian, Creole and French cuisines!  Thanks for checking in with us and we'll see you at Zante!

Laissez les bons temps rouler!!! (Let the good times roll!)

 Who Dat?!

All our Love,

Chef Brad Sullivan and family

We stopped in to Zante Cafe for lunch last week. As soon as we stepped through the door we knew we were in for a treat. The decor and atmosphere were amazing - thousands of antiques and treasures artfully arranged to create the most amazing dining room we'd ever seen. We were seated by a dapper young man and served by Krysta (children of the owners and clearlly wonderful kids). The service we received from Krysta belied her young age - she was fast, efficient, and friendly; she took our order without writing anything down and made no mistakes. The tables were set with candles, linen napkins, and crystal glasses. The food was fabulous - jambalaya for Don and the crepes for me. I was impressed that both the crepes and the quesadilla allowed the diner to chose their own fillings, which allowed the diner to easily go vegetarian if desired. We can't wait to go back to Zante Cafe to sample more of the excellent menu; if we're lucky, maybe Krysta will be our server again!

The flavors were outstanding. The best meal we've had in a long time. The food was prepared with loving care. We would plan a trip to Tarpon Springs again only if we could eat at Zante. It was a wonderful experience.

Enjoyed delicious lunch with my Red Hatters group, and am returning today with a friend to enjoy again this wonderfully charming and eclectic dining experience. Looking forwad to an intertesting and varied choice of lunches, and sharing a new diner's awe at the ambiance -- like a backstep in time. Delighted to know a place to dazzle those hard-to-please snowbirds.

Out of curiosity and based on a recommendation by the trolley tour guide, we visited Zante Cafeneo (w----------) for lunch last Thursday and then couldn't wait to return for dinner Friday night. Wow! The food was outstanding, deliciously prepared and artistically presented by Chef Brad Sullivan who owns the restaurant with his wife Liz. Never have we enjoyed such marvelous meals! The prices were very reasonable. Our dining experience was wonderfully enhanced by the fun and family-friendly environment: an eclectic collection of antiques, toys, and oddities and the owners' delightful children. Brad and Liz gave every diner personal attention, and we felt as though we had been warmly invited into their home for a fabulous meal. A unique dining experience and lots of happy memories!

Fantastic! Incredible Food, Personal Service!
This is a really neat place to eat! The food, teas, deserts - were delicious! The surroundings were unique and added to the charm. A red haired young man (13 or so) and his beautiful dark haired sister (maybe age 9) served our food on beautiful china plates under the supervision of their mother. Most impressive was the desire, exhibited by all, to please the customers! Lunch was served promptly and glasses quickly refilled. Regarding the surroundings - movie goers will not be disappointed - Star Wars fans, Spiderman fans, E-T fans, etc.. the place is filled with posters and other interesting items...I loved the food, the charm, and the youngsters learning their parents business! We will be back!

This is a good, fun place to eat in Tarpon Springs. A Mom and Pop operation with professional overtones. We enjoy it!

 flavorable, unique, quaint

It's a small place that works most of the dinners on a reservation basis. You can bring your own beer/wine since they don't offer it. Glasses are provided. Chef Brad is a genius in the galley. He preps and cooks each item to order with love.
